Principle and conditions

Legalisation of a signature is used to authenticate a signature on private documents (i.e. documents that are not written and signed in the presence of a notary) by an official signature.

For example, you can request a signature to be legalised for:  certificates for importing or exporting vehicles, adoption documents, documents relating to funerals, notaries' bills of sale, power of attorney, leases, etc.

You must sign the document in the presence of an official and must show proof of identity.  A legalised signature costs 5 € per document.

Obtaining the legalised signature

You must ensure that you have the original of the document to be signed and proof of identity.  Then you should go to:

  • Either the Police Department

Division de Police Administrative
4 rue Louis Notari

  • Or the Mairie (Town Hall) for documents in French only (allow 24h)

Mairie de Monaco - Service de l'État Civil
Place de la Mairie

  • Or the Ministry of State

Accueil Service Passeport
Place de la Visitation
