Who should register?

Any individual who is authorised to run a business in Monaco (including commercial, industrial and craft activities, and the professions), with a few exceptions, is required to register with the Independent Pensions Fund for the Self-Employed (CARTI) and the Sickness, Accident and Maternity Insurance for the Self-Employed (CAMTI) schemes.

Non-employee directors of Sociétés Anonymes Monégasques are not required to register.

How to register?

For businesses which require administrative authorisation and Managing Partners of SARLs, registration forms are automatically sent to the relevant individuals. They can also be collected from the reception desk at the Social Security Contributions Collection Office.

In all cases, these forms should be completed, signed and returned to the Social Security Funds accompanied by:

  • Proof of Statistical Identification Number (NIS) (issued by Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies - Monaco Statistics) or VAT number (issued by the Department of Tax Services)
  • A family certificate of civil status or a photocopy of your family record booklet
  • And a bank or post office details in the form of an RIB (original) details of the designated account or accounts to which medical benefits should be paid and from which authorisation is given to deduct social security contributions as required

When to register

For self-employed individuals who operate as a Sole Trader, SCS or SNC, registration with CAMTI and CARTI takes effect from the date on which the business begins to operate, based on the supporting documentation, even if it has not yet generated any turnover.

The application for registration must be submitted within one month of the start of activity, or from the point at which activity began again, if it was previously suspended.

For SARL Managing Partners, CAMTI and CARTI registration takes effect from the date of registration of the SARL in the Trade and Industry Register.

The application for registration must be submitted within one month of this date.

For Professional Independent Artists (API), CAMTI and CARTI registration takes effect from the date on which the NIS is issued by Monaco Statistics.

The application for registration must be submitted within one month of this date.
