Principle and conditions

You need to apply for a professional licence to work as taxi driver, hired limousines, municipal shared taxi-buses or motorcycles on request in Monaco.

You must have held a category B driving licence for more than two years, or a category A licence for more than four years for driving motorised two- or three-wheeled vehicles.

It is mandatory to undergo a medical examination and take a theoretical and practical test.

Formulating the request

 You need to make an application for a professional licence on paper as per the pro forma available:

  • Or at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office

Collating the documents

 You need to have the following documents:

  • A copy of an ID document (passport, ID card or residence permit)
  • A recent colour ID photo, against a light background, full-face, bare headed, of size 35x45mm, not scanned 
  • A copy of your valid driving licence
  • A full points summary dated within the last three months (if you have a driving licence with points)
  • An extract from criminal records of less than 3 months
  • Your payment, to be made by cheque or postal order (clearable in Monaco or France) for the test fees and issue of the professional licence in accordance with the current fee schedule (payment will be cashed once your application has been validated)

PLEASE NOTE: The applicant’s address must be identical on all documents submitted. If this is not the case, please supply proof of address (for example, an electricity bill)

Submitting the application

You need to hand in the complete application along with the required documents to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.

Undergoing a medical examination

You need to undergo a medical examination carried out by a registered practitioner using the medical certificate available either:

 

The medical certificate must be dated less than 3 months and given only when the theorical and practical tests have been passed.

Completing your application

  • For salaried drivers of hired limousines or motorcycles on request in Monaco: certificate of employment or copy of work permit (issued by the Employment Office)
  • For taxi drivers: Ministerial authorisation
