How to take your vehicle for a follow-up inspection

At the end of the technical inspection, a report is prepared and you will be given a copy you need to keep in your records.
If the condition of the vehicle does not satisfy all the applicable technical requirements, the inspector will order a retest, which must be undertaken within the deadline specified in the report.
There are two categories:
- Repair or adjustment as soon as possible: the owner of the vehicle is given a maximum deadline of 2 months
- Immediate repair or adjustment: the owner of the vehicle is given a maximum deadline of 15 days

Making an appointment for a follow-up inspection
You can make an appointment by post, at the Vehicle Testing Centre (VTC) reception or at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office (DVLO) reception. No appointments will be made without payment.
You may arrange a follow-up inspection by writing a letter on plain paper. You must state your availability and enclose a cheque, payable in Monaco or France, made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office with the current fee schedule.
You will receive confirmation of an appointment, which takes account of the availability you indicated (depending on free time slots) with the receipt for payment, by post.
You can make an appointment at the Vehicle Testing Centre reception or at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office reception, stating your availability and paying the amounts due by bank card, cash or cheques, payable in Monaco or France made out to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office with the current fee schedule.
You will be sent notification of the appointment and a receipt for payment.
Modifying an appointment for a follow-up inspection
Appointments can be rescheduled free of charge if you give at least 24 hours’ notice by telephoning (+377) 98 98 48 58 or by email (email@example.com ).
If you need to reschedule your appointment at less than 24 hours’ notice, you will have to pay a penalty to get a new appointment.
Presenting your vehicle for a follow-up inspection
Vehicles over 3 tonnes must be presented laden, except those with "livestock" bodywork.
On the day of the appointment, bring the following with you:
- The original copy of the vehicle’s registration certificate
- Your appointment confirmation
- The report of the original inspection
- Any documents that may be requested regarding the specificities of the vehicles, such as a bodywork certificate, ATP certificate of conformity, certificate mentioning any modifications, etc
At the agreed date and time, present the vehicle at the Vehicle Testing Centre situated 8 avenue Albert II
Vehicles may not be parked in the stipulated centre more than 30 minutes before the time of the appointment.
Don’t forget to stop at reception to ensure that your arrival is recorded.
The technical visit cannot be carried out and a penalty charge will be incurred for rescheduling an appointment in the following cases:
- Failure to notify non-attendance at least 24 hours before the date set
- Failure to attend the appointment
- A delay of more than 5 minutes from the time set
- Presenting the wrong vehicle
Follow-up inspections take 15 minutes or 20 minutes in the case of HGVs and commercial vehicles with laden weight over three tonnes.
During the follow-up inspection, only the issues for which the new inspection was required will be rechecked.
Receiving the results of the follow-up inspection
At the end of the follow-up inspection, a report is prepared and you will be given a copy for your records. The report will include the date of the inspection, the identity of the owner, the mileage (in kilometres), and any faults noted
If the faults have been corrected, the follow-up inspection is passed and a sticker showing the next technical inspection due date will be affixed to the back of the registration certificate.
If faults are still noted with the issues serviced, a new follow-up inspection must be carried out within 15 days.
In the event of persistent faults at the end of this inspection, the vehicle will be deregistered from the number plate database in the Principality of Monaco.
This means that the car may no longer be driven and that the registration certificate and licence plates must be returned to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Office.
